About Tony Duffy Sex & Relationship TherapistTony Duffy MSc. (Sexuality), Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Pg. Certificate. Adult & Higher Education, Dip. Life Coaching (TLI), Diploma in Counselling in Relationships & Sexuality, Diploma in Counselling, Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN)Background:After qualifying as a Psychiatric Nurse in Dublin in 1988 I moved to Cambridge, UK to work with clients with serious mental health problems.
I undertook the three-year Diploma in Counselling in Relationships and Sexuality at the London Institute of Sexuality and completed this in 1996. As part of this course it was necessary to complete a minimum of 250 hours clinical work. I worked in two General Practices in London and Kent where I worked with individuals and couples with a wide range of male and female relationship and sexual dysfunction, using an integrated approach based on the Sensate Focus model.
I completed my Master’s degree in Human Sexuality at St George’s Hospital Medical School in 1998. My dissertation was entitled: The sexual experiences of men with Sickle Cell Disease: A phenomenological enquiry.
I then worked as a Relationship & Sex Therapist part time in private practice in London until I returned to Ireland in 2001.
As well as dealing with a wide range of general relationship and sex issues, I have a specific interest in pregnancy and childbirth-related relationship and sexual problems. Trying to conceive, infertility, being pregnant, childbirth and parenthood all have a big impact on relationships and can lead to many sexual problems for both the male and female partners.
I am a general member of the British Association for Sexual & Relationship Therapy (BASRT) (Please visit www.basrt.org.uk to verify). I am currently working towards BASRT accreditation.
